The thematic area of Respiratory Diseases (CIBERES), a multidisciplinary and multi-institutional group, has the aim of fighting respiratory diseases by furthering excellence in research and its fast and safe translation to clinical practice. It is made up of 34 groups in which there are around 400 researchers with a multidisciplinary profile working jointly on projects covered in nine Corporate Research Programmes: lung cancer, sleep apnoea, pulmonary fibrosis, asthma, pulmonary hypertension, acute pulmonary lesions, tuberculosis, pneumonias, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases (COPD) and new therapeutic targets. Its network structure means it can bring together some of the best basic, clinical and epidemiological research groups located in healthcare and research centres in nine autonomous communities.
CIBER is a consortium dependent of the Institute de Salud Carlos III (Institute of Health Carlos III) through the Spain's Ministry of Science and Innovation and co-financed with ERDF and ESF funds. European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) “A way to make Europe”. European Social Fund (ESF) “The ESF invests in your future”.
